KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube says Ina Cronje embodied the non-racial character of the struggle for liberation.
According to the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government, Cronje passed away on Tuesday, 24 October after a short illness.From 2004 Ina Cronje served as MEC for Education under Premier S’bu Ndebele, in 2009 as MEC for Finance under Premier Zweli Mkhize and under Premier Senzo Mchunu who took over in 2013.
Following her retirement in 2014 Cronje continued to offer valuable skills and served as Chairperson of Trade and Investment KZN helping garner much needed investment into KwaZulu-Natal.ALSO READ:KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube described Cronje as a human rights lawyer who distinguished herself in the struggle for the liberation of the downtrodden and vulnerable.
“Driven by her revolutionary consciousness, Ina Cronje forewent the life of privilege offered by her profession and the colour of her skin in apartheid South Africa, in favour of the struggle for freedom. Indeed, she embodied the non-racial character of the struggle for liberation spearheaded by the African National Congress ,” Dube-Ncube said.
“Our hearts go out to the entire Cronje family which, at this time, is without a dear mother, sister, grandmother and confidante in the person of Ina Cronje. The void left by the departure of Ina Cronje in your lives cannot be filled. Please be comforted in the knowledge that your flesh and blood drew her story firmly in the sands of time, and her contribution will never be erased from the annals of our history,” she added.
