A former Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmate has been arrested on allegations he sent fake legal mail soaked with synthetic cannabinoids and other narcotics to incarcerated individuals.
TEXAS – The Texas Board of Criminal Justice Office of Inspector General arrested Deidrick Capers on June 2 at his Texas City residence. Investigators said Capers sent fake legal mail to inmates in TDCJ units, correctional facilities in other states, and federal prisons.
A search of the home uncovered drug-lab paraphernalia, legal mail stamps, counterfeit labels, paper soaked in K2, approximately 30 grams of Suboxone, 50 grams of liquid K2 and $4,225 in cash, investigators said. Inspector General Lance Coleman said the arrest is part of a larger investigation into what authorities believe may be a broader drug-trafficking operation targeting correctional facilities nationwide.
