Kenny Lofton, the former center fielder for the Indians, offered assistance to those affected by the devastating wildfires in Southern California. Lofton, a longtime California resident, donated supplies to shelters and expressed his sorrow for the victims who lost their homes and belongings.

“Luckily the wind has been blowing north, not south where I live,” Lofton told cleveland.com. “It’s sad. It’s really sad. People’s lives have been destroyed just like that.While his property has been spared, Lofton said he felt he had to do something for his neighbors who have suffered so much. “I just felt I needed to do my part. It’s just sad to see. I just couldn’t sit at home and do nothing. People got displaced. Their whole wardrobe is just gone. They have no toilet paper, tooth brush, tooth paste. All that stuff is just gone.”
“Even though Palisades is a very expensive place to live, it wasn’t just the million homes that were destroyed,” said Lofton. “There’s low-income housing as well. Those are the people who have had their homes destroyed that can’t afford it.”“It’s like a hurricane of fire,” said Lofton. “But instead of rain, the winds are blowing fire. That’s just the worst.
