Former speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy believes his successor, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), is safe for now.
Johnson over the passage of a $1.2 trillion government funding bill, but McCarthy said it’s nothing to worry about on Sunday.
“The one advice I would give to the conference and to the speaker is — do not be fearful of a motion to vacate,” McCarthy said on CBS News’s. “I do not think they could do it again. That was surely based on Rep. Matt Gaetz trying to stop an ethics complaint. I don’t think the Democrats would go along with it. Focus on the country, focus on the job you’re supposed to do.”
