ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Jurors Tuesday convicted a former Greenwood Village police officer of manslaughter in the killing of an Aurora teen in late 2021.
Holen, who was slumped forward with his head down as the verdict was read, exited the courtroom displaying a Bible with a large note in red letters citing John 13:7,"Jesus replied, 'You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.'" During the exchange of gunfire, Holen was shot once and Blitstein was shot nine times, according to a forensic pathologist who testified in court during the trial. Doorbell camera footage captured the confrontation and shooting but it did not clearly show who fired their weapon first.
Investigators said Holen, who had resigned from the Greenwood Village Police Department a few weeks before the deadly confrontation, was drunk at the time of the shooting. His blood alcohol level was roughly twice the legal limit.Affidavit: Former officer was drunk at time of deadly shooting Óscar Contreras 5:45 PM, Dec 23, 2021 When police arrived at the scene, they found Blistein on the ground in the street as a woman was performing CPR on the teen as Holen stood nearby.
