Patrick Screws Jr., a former standout football player from Eufaula, has decided to leave Georgia Tech after two seasons and join the Troy Trojans. Screws, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman, felt Troy was the right fit for him due to its proximity to home and strong coaching staff. He was attracted to the program's history and its potential to return to its former glory.

Jon Johnson A day after signing with Troy, former Eufaula football standout Patrick Screws, Jr., talked about his decision to leave Georgia Tech after two seasons and return to the Wiregrass.

Screws visited South Alabama last week before deciding on Troy and signing on Sunday. He had previous connections with Troy offensive line coach Caleb Carbine, who recruited him out of high school while he was coaching at North Alabama, and Ryne Strickland, a former assistant at Central-Phenix City who is an offensive line graduate assistant with the Trojans.

“He told me how proud he was of me and everything,” Screws said. “He’s always bragging about how good Troy is. Me and coach Jernigan have talked a lot about trying to get Troy back to the standards it’s known for.”
