Karun Chandhok was able to stay calm and get his vehicle off the track before fleeing to safety.
Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok was forced to escape from a burning car at the Goodwood Revival festival.
Now a broadcaster for Sky, Chandhok had to make a hasty exit from the vehicle he was driving after it burst into flames, with footage emerging on social media. The 39-year-old drove off the track when his motor caught fire and onto the grass, where he was able to escape unscathed ion what was a frightening incident for the one-time Formula E driver.
His brother Suhail took to social media afterwards to confirm that Chandhok was okay. He praised his quick thinking and presence of mind in order to stay calm and escape to safety. Also a broadcaster, Suhail said: "Scary moment for @karunchandhok minutes ago @goodwoodrevivla in the iconic GTO. Most importantly just really glad he's ok. But I have to say that save, car control and presence of mind to quickly get it off circuit and onto the grass was IMPRESSIVE.
"We thought we were done with stressful moments as a family of a racing driver but guess that's the nature of the beast"
