David Meranda, 34, of Akron, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery, prosecutors say.

AKRON, Ohio — A 34-year-old man who was an emergency room doctor in the Akron area has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a co-worker.

A Summit County Common Pleas Court judge is scheduled to sentence David Meranda, 34, of Akron, on June 15 after Meranda pleaded guilty to sexual battery, a first-degree felony. Meranda faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison.Meranda was a contracted ER doctor at a hospital system in the Akron area when the assault occurred, prosecutors say.
