Seventh Doctor actor Sylvester McCoy defends the political storytelling of Doctor Who. Picking up the role from Sixth Doctor Colin Baker in 1987 through the classic series' end in 1989, McCoy's Doctor was both a guiding mentor and a trickster challenging the powerful forces of the universe.

In the '60s, I got hooked on Doctor Who, and the reason why was because of the politics in it, subtly put there. The '60s, they started to swing, they started to change... it was a kind of a revolution, a peaceful and wonderful revolution going on, and Doctor Who was the only decent thing on at the time that had anything that talked to young people like me in a political way. So it's always been political, as far as I'm concerned.
