Former Disney CEO Bob Iger congratulates Tom Holland on the success of SpiderManNoWayHome and jokes about his drunken phone call to keep Spider-Man in the MCU.

Former Disney CEO of the Walt Disney Company Bob Iger congratulates Tom Holland on the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home on Christmas morning. In addition to having the highest audience score in Rotten Tomatoes history, No Way Home has become Sony Pictures' biggest domestic release ever. Much of the film's success is due to the MCU's multiverse theory and three generations of Spider-Man cinema, the latest of which revolves around Holland's web-slinger.

Following Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man films, Sony and Disney/ Marvel Studios reached a deal in 2015 to incorporate Peter Parker/Spider-Man into the MCU. Propelled by a deal spanning five movies, Holland made his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War before starring in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Hey @TomHolland1996 …I’m glad we had that discussion about Spider-Man and congratulations on the success of @SpiderMan No Way Home! Merry Christmas, too! After contract negotiations broke down in 2019, fans around the world expressed outrage that Holland's Spider-Man would no longer be a part of the MCU.

For the very few people who haven't seen No Way Home, the multiversal film brings characters from Sony's past into the MCU—from Alfred Molina's Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man . No Way Home is an ode to Spider-Man, a character arguably responsible for kicking off the contemporary age of superhero movies. The future of Holland and Spider-Man is uncertain.
