She developed connections with black South African activists and artists, and pledged to return her collection of works to a public gallery once black majority rule came to the country.Her friend and successor as Australia's ambassador to South Africa, the late Bruce Haigh, added his collection in 2005 and the pair founded the Ifa Lethu Foundation the same year.
"Eventually quite a lot of volunteers came on board and I'd like to pay tribute to dedicated people who were part of that early program. "But also, the community effort was being brought to the table and it made a terrific partnership of government contributing a bit of resources but volunteers really adding to that and giving the dogs a much better experience than they would have had."The Symonston facility has a 74-kennel capacity and is, as is often the case, it's overbooked.
