Sizwe Mchunu, the former leader of the Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal, is among a number of party members of the provincial legislature and councillors who have defected to the ANC in the run up to the May 8 national and provincial elections.
Mchunu, who served on the DA’s national leadership for nearly a decade, defected to the ANC along with several DA councillors from the Msunduzi local municipality at Pietermaritzburg.

BY-ELECTIONS: ANC has a big night in Northern KZN, making gains against IFPThe ANC took two wards off the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), gaining wards in eNdumeni (Dundee) and uMhlabuyalingana in the far northern part of the province. The win in eNdumeni gave the party outright control of the council. The ANC has now won three wards off the IFP in northern KwaZulu-Natal since December 2018 and are rebounding against the IFP in this battleground part of the province. There were four other KwaZulu-Natal by-elections with the IFP and EFF registering good gains in some of the races.
