A former paraprofessional at a Cumberland County school district has been charged with endangering an 8-year-old autistic boy, according to court documents.
Throughout the 2023-24 school year, Piper hit the child and held her hand over his mouth to keep him quiet, the affidavit said. Six witnesses reported the behavior to police, in addition to the child’s mother, the affidavit said. One witness reportedly told police they were not shocked the boy’s mom found bruises on him, because, “There was no way there couldn’t have been bruises.”Piper was charged on Sept. 26 with child endangerment and simple assault. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23 in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael Sanderson.
