Former Chicago Alderman Patrick Daley Thompson, nephew of former Mayor Richard M. Daley, was sentenced to four months in prison.

CHICAGO -- Former Chicago Alderman Patrick Daley Thompson was sentenced to four months in prison in federal court Wednesday.on seven counts of lying to federal bank regulators and filing false tax returns.

Thompson's attorney argued that in 74% of other tax fraud cases in this district the defendants were given probation. But prosecutor Michelle Peterson argued that when Thompson was confronted about a bank loan and fraudulent mortgage deductions claimed on his taxes, he lied and lied until he got caught."When people are caught for those crimes there has to be a punishment to act as a deterrent to others," she added.
