TACOMA, Washington — Shawn Kemp, a former NBA star who played three season with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the late 1990s, was arrested Wednesday in connection with a drive-by shooting at a mall in Tacoma, reports say.Kemp, 53, was booked at Pierce County Corrections at about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
According to a news release from police, shots were fired at the Tacoma Mall just before 2 p.m. after a fight between occupants in two vehicles. Police say the driver of one of the vehicles fired several shots at the other vehicle before driving away. No injuries were reported. Officers arrested Kemp on the mall property without incident, police say, and a firearm was recovered.
Kemp played 14 seasons in the NBA, including in Cleveland from 1997 to 2000 after he was traded to the Cavaliers as part of a three-team deal. The power forward/center averaged 20.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in his three seasons in Cleveland before being traded to Portland.
