A former north Alabama pastor is going to prison and must register as a sex offender.
The former pastor of a Florence church who made a confession from the pulpit in 2019 has been sentenced to time in prison and will be a registered sex offender.
Coty Hand, assistant district attorney for Lauderdale County, said John Thomas Martin, 44, pleaded guilty to three counts of first degree sexual abuse last month. He was sentenced to 10 years for each count, with a two-year split. Martin will serve six years in prison.On June 23, 2019, Martin resigned after nine years as pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church after admitting to church members that he had inappropriate relationships with young men.Prosecutors say Martin admitted to four counts of sexual abuse of a child – involved a victim younger than 16.
