Former National League all-star David Dahl called fans’ response on Monday night “probably the coolest thing I’ve been a part of on a baseball field.”

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder David Dahl circles the bases after hitting a home run during a National League game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.from Milwaukee right-hander Bryse Wilson over the right-field fence at Citizens Bank Park in the fourth inning for the Phillies’ final run of the National League game.Interviewed on the Phillies Radio Network as the Chevrolet Star of the Game, Dahl said: “This fan base is unbelievable.

“I was just kind of hanging out at the hotel and watching Netflix when I got the call from Sam that I was going up,”, “so I had to go over to the field and pack up, and I didn’t find out I was in the lineup until I was 20 minutes away. I think it helped because I wasn’t sitting around thinking about it. I was able to just say, ‘Let’s go play.’”

At 42-19, the Phillies have the best record in the National League and are tied with the New York Yankees for the best in the Majors.Dahl started the 2023 season on the same arrangement with the San Diego Padres – a minor-league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training -- and made the regular-season roster. But after four games, a quadriceps injury sent Dahl to the injured list.

The next season, Dahl got called up to the big leagues after hitting .484 with five home runs in 16 games for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. Dahl batted .302 with 15 home runs and a .524 slugging percentage in 100 games in 2019. National League players selected Dahl as an outfield reserve for the MLB All-Star Game. Dahl singled and scored in his only at-bat in the annual Mid-Summer Classic. But less than a month later, he was out for the season because of a high ankle sprain sustained trying to make a catch in center field.
