Montgomery, Alabama

“Congressman Everett passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning at his home in Rehobeth,” Gov. Kay Ivey said in a statement.

“Terry tirelessly served the people of southeast Alabama and his native Wiregrass with distinction for eight terms in Congress. During his time on Capitol Hill, he was one of the strongest voices for Alabama’s military bases, active duty personnel, and veterans. He was also a stalwart advocate for Alabama farmers and small businesses.“My thoughts and prayers go out to Terry’s family, friends and former staff.

Everett was first elected to Congress in 1992, succeeding longtime Congressman Bill Dickinson of Montgomery. He didn’t seek re-election in 2008 and was succeeded by then-Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright.AP source: Louisville plans to fire men's basketball coach Kenny Payne after he went 12-52 in two seasons
