But there has been exactly one interview -- and quite possibly one confirmation hearing: the one held Monday (Dec.
16) with former two-term Akron mayorDan Horrigan, who also served as an Akron city councilman and Summit County clerk of courts, sat down with Seren and council for about an hour Monday. He further agreed to call individual Cleveland Heights council members after most said they had more questions, Council President Tony Cuda noted afterward. A “delighted” Seren said his interviews with Horrigan were more of a series of conversations about his experience and his interest in continuing in public service.“That experience is directly transferable in a wide variety of arenas, and I think we will benefit from his addition to this team.Although it is the fifth largest city in Ohio, Akron shares many of the issues dealt with in Cleveland Heights, from EPA sewer consent decrees to its own version of the Racial Justice Task Force. “There’s a lot of experience that I think I can bring to the position and to be able to help, but I look forward to continuing to serve the community in a very public role,” Horrigan said. When he was elected mayor in Akron, Horrigan recalled that the housing market there was not doing well.
