Montreal Alouettes defensive lineman Shawn Lemon has been suspended indefinitely for betting on CFL games, the league announced. Lemon, a former University of Akron standout, won three Grey Cups during a 13-year CFL career, including with the Alouettes in November 2023. He re-signed with the team in December before abruptly retiring April 10.
Additionally, there was no evidence that any of Lemon’s teammates, coaches or team personnel were aware of his actions, according to the CFL. “It is our responsibility as a league to investigate and address such abnormalities, and it is our collective duty, along with our teams and players, to ensure that sports wagering in no way impacts the quality nor standing of the CFL. We will continue to work with our authorized gaming operators, partners and stakeholders to hold our game to the highest standard.”Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr.
