ANCHORAGE, Alaska - After announcing a bid to succeed term-limited Gov. Mike Dunleavy last week, former Attorney General Treg Taylor sat down with Alaska ’s News Source in one of his first media appearances since his announcement, making his argument to revitalize Alaska ’s economy and make it a place for future generations.

Former Attorney General Treg Taylor sits down with political reporter Wil Courtney and discusses his tenure in office and gubernatorial bid. “We’ve got to create good-paying jobs, we need an affordable, reliable source of energy, and to bring the cost of living down, and we’ve got to get Juneau working again — not just politics as usual,” Taylor said Monday. “If we want our kids to be able to return and raise their families here, we have to fix those issues.” On the state legislature, Taylor consistently said they played “political football” with controversial issues, including the special session’s push to override the“We’re obviously going to have some big budget issues approaching the state as we’ve seen the barrel of oil go down in price,” he said. “That obviously puts a big pinch on what we’re able to do in state government, so we’re going to have to work through those issues and we’re going to have to work through those together. ” Despite the decreasing price of oil, Taylor said Alaska is “on the cusp of renaissance,” despite also saying “we as Alaskans have to tighten the belt when the economy suffers.” Taylor did not cast blame on Dunleavy for the state of the economy and said the key to diversification was leaning into LNG. “That’s why the Alaska gas line is so important to the state, because without reliable, affordable energy, it really stifles the ability to increase business in the state,” he said. Taylor joins a crowded field of 10 others vying for the governor’s seat. He said his “proven record of fighting for Alaska and winning would distinguish him from the crowd. “I fought the Biden administration, I fought crime, and I fought for Alaska’s economic future and for its sovereignty,” he said. “I’ve worked closely with the Trump administration so I could hit the ground day one running because I have those familiarities.”On that issue, he said it was “a huge misunderstanding,” and that the board unanimously approved to disclose that information. “It’s not about hiding information,” he said. “It’s not about not disclosing it to the public. It’s about the form of that disclosure.”High school staff member injured by student with knifeWoman named Isis can’t use license plate that reads ‘IAMISIS,’ DMV saysInterior council candidates gather for League of Women Voters forumFormer Anchorage jail ICE detainee denied asylum appeal, faces deportation with tuberculosis
