Dave Clark a regular on the Cleveland's late '80s hard-rock scene, returns to his old stomping grounds Saturday to celebrate release of his new album, 'Arizona' with a solo show at The Inn Between Bar & Grill in North Royalton.
Singer-songwriter Dave Clark will play a record release show for his album "Arizona" on Saturday, June 15 night at The Inn Between Bar & Grill in North Royalton., Clark will play a solo show to celebrate the release of his new album, “Arizona,” available on Spotify and other streaming services.
Clark will play songs from “Arizona,” his 2019 album “Rock City,” as well as classic-rock favorites and other familiar tunes. On the new album, Clark performs all the vocals, play guitars, bass and keyboards throughout the album’s dozen tracks, which proudly dwell in the melodic hard rock arena sound of the late ‘80s on which Clark cut his musical teeth. The single “The Way to Your Heart” typifies the album. Chunky major-key riffs are buoyed by a rising chorus with catchy harmonized chorus vocals. “Arizona” contains defiant thumping tunes with classic shred guitar solos such as “ Bringin’ Me Down,” midtempo love anthems like “I Wanna Be With You,” and a lighter-hoisting power ballad in “Lost Without You.” The sonic and musical moves throughout the album should be pleasantly familiar to anyone raised on mainstream rock radio when teased-hair and spandex-clad bands such as Bon Jovi, White Lion, Warrant and Night Ranger ruled rock radio playlists.“You were either wearing Jordache jeans and as tight as possible, or you were wearing spandex, it’s one or the other. And usually for me, if I was just going out for the night, it was Jordache. If I was playing, it was spandex. So that was the differentiation. But the hair was always a foot up in the air for sure. And in my case, not only was it long, it was bleach blonde.” he said, chuckling. The singer-songwriter-instrumentalist grew up in the Cleveland area, fell in love with rock and roll in Cleveland, and after graduating from Padua High School in Parma, spent his late teens into mid-20s playing in a band when melodic hard rock was still king. There was a lively local rock scene and a circuit of venues to conquer back then, and competition with bands like, accruing varying amounts of local success. Dia Pason was the Tuesday night house band at the Flash Gordon’s Concert Club and managed to release an album, As most musicians past and present know, keeping a band together while working a regular job is difficult. Clark was also working on his degree from Cleveland State at the time, all while trying to get his bands above regional opener status. Eventaully, he came to a tough realization about his rock and roll dreams and the accompanying big bleached-blonde hair. “Well, if I cut my hair, I can move into outside sales, I can make a lot more money and all of that. And so at 26, I basically gave up the band scene.” Clark said. Though he still loved music and wrote songs, he did “the adult thing” while releasing the occasional single. After 43 years in his home state, Clark decided he’ “finally shoveled one driveway full of snow too many” and, in 2012, moved to Florida. But Clark soon found the Sunshine State’s humidity, bugs, and “crazy people” not to his liking and settled in Arizona, where he and his family have been for the past decade. After getting fired from a sales job he hated a few weeks before Christmas, Clark decided to pursue music full-time, building a network of venues and fans strong enough for him to have as many as nine gigs a week, performing solo shows at bars and venues all over Phoenix. “I play every day of the week. It’s awesome, and I love it, and my voice is strong. Now, when I come home I’m planning to sing for five hours at that show,” he said. “Arizona” was released online to streaming and internet radio stations in March and has been found by fans in surprising places, specifically across Europe and in parts of South America. “On week two, I blew up in Denmark. I, I looked at my Spotify results and the top five cities streaming my music were all in Denmark,” says Clark. “And then two weeks later, uh it was, it was South America. It was, I think Chile, everybody in Chile was listening to, to ‘Arizona.’ It was just funny where I would look in like the top cities or, you know, Chile. Chile. Chile, Phoenix, Chile and Cleveland. That’s a, that’s a motley crew of a list.” “It was so wild that my friends and family are listening in Phoenix and Cleveland, but everywhere else where people are listening to me as a fan, it’s all overseas.”Dave Clark performs at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Inn Between Bar & Grill, 8684 Ridge Road, North Royalton.
