The retail giant was loved on the high street
Forgotten moments from the 1970s have been captured in rare images from inside a lost Woolworths shop on Merseyside.
And it was on Church Street in Liverpool that the first UK branch opened on November 5, 1909. So loved by local shoppers in the city, it was also known by the nickname 'Woolies' and is best remembered for its 'pic n mix' selection and a stationery section adored by kids.READ MORE: Did you ever try these lost treats and sweets from years gone by?
But sadly the Woolworths dream died in 2009 when the company entered administration in the UK. Today, it is still fondly missed on our high streets. One image captures the book section. Whereas another shows more customers browsing the makeup counter.Over a decade on from Woolworths' end, the ECHO took a look at what replaced some of the city's most loved stores.The ECHO previously reported how Woolworths opened in Bootle in 1930 on Stanley Road. Then 35 years later, the shops on one side of Stanley Road were to be demolished to make way for a new shopping centre.
