The Boys needs a spinoff about older supes
Although it got off to a promising start in its first couple of episodes, The Boys’ fifth and final season is turning out to be kind of a let-down.
There’s so much time dedicated to new characters, and bits that go on for way too long, and not nearly enough time dedicated to actually wrapping up the overarching plot and resolving any of the main characters’ arcs. We’re one episode away from the end of the entire series, and it still feels like there could be another season’s worth of story ahead.
One of the biggest issues with the season has been the absurd amount of screen time allotted for Soldier Boy. Butcher and Hughie and Annie and M.M. sometimes feel like background characters, but there’s plenty of time for Soldier Boy. This is supposed to be the epic denouement of The Boys saga, but it’s more interested in setting up the next spinoff than finishing the story at hand.
The Boys season 5 feels more like a precursor to Vought Rising than the grand finale of The Boys itself. In the words of Stewie Griffin, maybe finish this candy bar before opening another. After sitting through seven episodes of The Boys’ final season, I feel like I’ve already seen a Soldier Boy spinoff, so Vought Rising doesn’t seem so necessary anymore .
Instead, I’d like to see a Boys spinoff about older supes, like the ones we saw in season 5, episode 6, “Though the Heavens Fall. ” Why A Boys Spinoff About Elderly Supes Could Be Great The bright spots in The Boys’ final season have been standalone gags, from Rock Hard offering a twisted take on the Thing to Countess Crow proving just how useless the power of crow command would be.
In “Though the Heavens Fall,” the Boys are sent to Vought Villages, a retirement home for elderly supes, to speak to Golden Geisha, Bombsight’s former lover. I loved this setting, and I think it has more potential than just a one-off gag; I think you could set a whole series there. The elderly supes at the nursing home could easily star in their own spinoff series, exploring a different corner of The Boys universe.
The last Boys spinoff, Gen V, looked at the world of The Boys from the younger generation’s perspective; Vought Villages would be the perfect setting to look at this world from the older generation’s perspective. This is where older supes are sent to die when they’re forgotten about or replaced, and the team dynamic in “Though the Heavens Fall” proves it could also be the place where they get a new lease on life.
It would be a great opportunity to bring in a bunch of brilliant older actors to give another unforgettable performance in a career full of them, the same way Agatha All Along did with Patti LuPone, or The Penguin did with Clancy Brown. As long as Amazon is doubling down on the Vought Cinematic Universe and pumping out as many spinoffs as they can, a Vought Villages show would be awesome.
A Nursing Home Supe Spinoff Would Be An R-Rated Cocoon A Vought Villages spinoff would basically be The Boys meets Cocoon. Cocoon, Ron Howard’s delightful sci-fi classic, revolves around a group of retirees who gain an unexpected youthful vigor when they swim in a pool containing alien matter. So, imagine that, but with superpowers, and with The Boys’ twisted sense of humor.

I’m sure Vought Rising will be a fun ride, but I’d much rather see a Vought Villages show — or, better yet, Gen V season 3.
It’s highly unlikely that The Boys will reach a satisfying conclusion next week, so this would be a nice consolation prize. 273 8.8/10 7/10 The Boys 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-MA Action Drama Crime Comedy Release Date 2019 - 2026-00-00 Showrunner Eric Kripke Directors Erin Moriarty, Karen Fukuhara, Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Eric Kripke Writers Eric Kripke Franchise The Boys 9 Images Close Cast See All Based on the hit comic series, Amazon Prime's The Boys is a gritty subversive take on the superhero genre, focusing on a group of vigilantes who confront and punish the powerful superheroes who abuse their abilities.
