Deadpool 3 will round out the trilogy that began in Fox's universe as part of the MCU and should only include three other mutants besides Wade Wilson. After Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox was finalized in 2019, many expected it was only a matter of time before the MCU began utilizing the characters from Fox's various franchises. This is set to begin fully in Phase 6, with films like Fantastic Four and Deadpool 3 breaking new ground for Marvel Studios.

This began after the confirmation of Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, leading many to assume other mutants would follow suit. However, Deadpool 3 only needs three mutant characters as part of its story, in order to benefit both the Deadpool series and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.
As Deadpool 3 is continuing the story set in the Fox universe, it should focus on being a third entry in that franchise. Rather than act as a pseudo-introduction to the X-Men in the MCU by including many other mutants, Deadpool 3 should be set on satisfyingly ending the Deadpool trilogy while leaving Wade off for an MCU future. Through Negasonic, Colossus, and now Wolverine, this can be achieved.
Deadpool 3 Needs To End The Trilogy Rather Than Be Too Focused On MCU’s Future The reason for this comes from Marvel Studios' plan for Phases 4, 5, and 6. These three Phases make up the Multiverse Saga, with Phase 4 already establishing the majority of the major heroes who will play a part.
While Deadpool's meta, fourth-wall-breaking humor will likely include nods to the wider X-Men franchise and the MCU itself, it will hopefully have the same heart as the first two in its story. This will allow a nice culmination of the Deadpool trilogy, with the character now being part of the MCU.
