Released in 2017, it was the platform's first German show, and even though it initially looked like another rendition of Stranger Things, where a group of teenagers tries to solve a mystery, Dark proves to be so much more.

" Dark may be grueling, complex, and demanding of its audience, but it binds together a gripping journey of fostering and maintaining connections in a world that can become increasingly dizzying. Across the timelines, we witness how profoundly someone could affect another's life, even if their paths barely cross, making up faint intersections of an entangled web.
On the other hand, other bonds are fiercely held onto, especially between the co-protagonists, Jonah and Martha , whose romantic relationship leads to devastating revelations about love and heartbreak in the face of linear time. Warping the fabric of time somehow reinforces how unstoppable and unforgiving it can be, as we constantly witness the disastrous consequences of decisions even as they evolve.
Because of the nature of the story, the cast members have the challenge of either performing as the same character in different eras or sharing their roles while maintaining authenticity. We meet different variations of the same character, their mannerisms or appearances marked by different time periods and alternate universes. Hofmann, in particular, portrays his character's growth steadily, especially by the final season, where his posture and eyes carry the burden of witnessing multiple lifetimes despite his youth.
