Two forensic meteorologists have been added to the 17-member NTSB investigation team looking into the cause of a plane crash near Nome, Alaska, one week ago. The team will examine the weather conditions and information provided to the pilot before and during the flight to determine if it played a role in the crash.

“We want to make sure that this flight and this pilot had all the pertinent weather information to be able to make that ‘go no-go’ decision.” Closely examining all weather information a pilot receives, Johnson said, is a standard NTSB procedure. “We’re in the process of just now getting preliminary information, nothing conclusive at this point, but we’re starting to get a little bit of that data in, and this is kind of like a mosaic, we’re in the process of gathering all this information ... we’re still very much in the formative stages,” Johnson said.said the Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft owned by Bering Air had been flying from Unalakleet to Nome on Feb. 6. The flight took off from Unalakleet at 2:37 p.m.
