The National Weather Service says dual storms could drop more than 4 inches of water on parts of Southcentral Alaska by Sunday
After heavy rain fell across much of Southcentral Alaska, a second storm system is forecast to drench the region overnight and through Sunday.on Saturday, the National Weather Service said the affected areas stretch from Talkeetna and Sutton in the Susitna and Matanuska valleys through Anchorage down to Homer at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula.in the Talkeetna Mountains. Nearly an inch fell in parts the Matanuska Valley and within the Anchorage Bowl.
“A second storm system is then expected to bring another round of moderate to heavy rain across the western Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage Bowl, and Mat-Su Valleys for Sunday morning,” the Weather Service said. Similar rain totals are expected to accrue by midday Sunday in the region, with the Portage and Whittier areas forecasted to get up to two inches of precipitation, and another 1.5 inches possible around the Susitna Valley.“The prolonged rain event could push small streams and creeks to or slightly above bankfull. Smaller rivers could see water levels rise to bankfull, especially in the Mat-Su Valleys,” thew weather service said.
Roadways could see localized flooding and the weather service advises motorists to exercise caution if they come upon ponding in roadways.
