President Donald Trump plans to visit Ford Motor Company's Rawsonville manufacturing plant in Ypsilanti Township on Thursday, which began making ventilators and personal protective equipment in late April to help in the fight against the coronavirus outbreak.
No. 2020-91, signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Monday, prohibits all"nonessential" in-person visits to manufacturing facilities in Michigan.for Whitmer confirmed Tuesday that this provision applies to the Ford factory in Ypsilanti, but said that Whitmer will not attempt to prevent Trump, who has frequently been critical of the Democratic governor, from touring the facilities.
A Ford spokeswoman said Tuesday the president will be required to wear a mask while touring the plant, something Trump has consistently resisted in the past.
