First look at 'ring-ready GT, plus the interior, as covers come off at Le Mans
First look at 'ring-ready GT, plus the interior, as covers come off at Le Mans. Perhaps initially, the idea of a Ford Mustang that was targeting more than 800hp and under seven minutes at the Nurburgring seemed a bit crazy. Brilliantly so, but crazy nonetheless.
Performance Packs are familiar from many modern Mustangs, but none is quite like this. This fresh;y upgraded GTD benefits from those huge front aero flics, new underbody flaps, DRS on the rear wing and those stunning magnesium wheels. Some weight is removed via sound deadening deletion as well for the Performance Pack.
Additionally, Ford has chosen the world’s most famous endurance race to show off the GTD interior. It's marked out with a few cool features like suspension adjustment on the carbon-Alcantara wheels and huge titanium paddles for the dual-clutch gearbox. There’s a nose lift button for the very first time in a Mustang.
“Many sports cars excel at one thing. But for a car to set a quick lap at the Nürburgring, it needs to be great at everything. Cornering, grip, braking, acceleration, there’s not a single area where it can’t shine,” said Mustang GTD Chief Engineer Greg Goodall.
