The day is structured around having Summit attendees, including Forbes 30 Under 30 honorees, prepare students from six Detroit high schools for success in professional life and higher education.
On October 30, the final day of the 2019 Forbes Under 30 Summit, attendees gathered to empower and mentor Detroit Youth in collaboration with the Future Project at the first-ever Dream Tank day. The Future Project is a nonprofit that empowers youth from disadvantaged backgrounds through professional and academic mentorship and skill building.
At the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, students divided into six key workshops on financial literacy, leveraging social media with LinkedIn, dressing for success and actualizing passion. The day culminated with an entrepreneurial pitch competition in which students present ideas for companies, with the student with the strongest idea winning $1,000 to start their company.
Now, she’s a dream director for the Future Project—meaning she provides professional and academic support and inspiration for over 1,000 Detroit students. Dream Tank is a partnership between Future Project, with Hughes as lead, and Forbes that represents the culmination of the tradition of service at Forbes Under 30 summits, as all Forbes Under 30 summits conclude by giving back to the host city’s community.
