Experienced forager Diego Bonetto says safe foraging comes down to careful identification of plants and vigilant hygiene practices.
Mr Bonetto said the most important part of foraging safely is careful identification of anything harvested.
"It's good to actually go out with experienced foragers to actually have hands-on experience that will tell you – plants in hand – what to look for and how different it would be from a look-alike plant right next to it." "You don't eat them raw for various reasons – famously the fact they contain quite a lot of oxalic [acid] – so you would want to at the very least blanch the greens before ingesting.
"These kind of parasites would come across even just if you have a snake coming around in your garden, you wouldn't know it and you could get it just as well.
