For-hire drivers are demanding urgent action to revise what they call a dangerous and outdated policy following the brutal attack on a passenger that led to his death. Police released surveillance video of the suspects wanted in connection with the death of 53-year-old Michael Shelonchik. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the livery cab Shelonchik was riding in was stopped at an intersection in Coney Island.
Two suspects approached the vehicle, opened the backseat doors, and proceeded to assault the passenger, robbing him in the process. They stole a gold chain from his neck.Police report that Shelonchik suffered a medical emergency following the robbery and was pronounced dead at Maimonides Medical Center.
