Every year in the country, countless moms and dads find themselves grappling with how to talk to their kids about a difficult diagnosis."If the kids get a cold, they get over in a few days. It can take me a few months," Sibert said.

"We told him that some of mom's cells, they don’t know when to stop and showed that with legos," Filippazzo recalled. Dr. Pruett lost his own father to cancer when he was young, so he understands how difficult these conversations can be. Among his tips is to ensure the sick parent is the one having the conversation, and to ask for forgiveness when you're having bad days.
