By placing himself in front of the cameras every week, Jerry Jones makes it look like he’s taking responsibility for the failures of the Cowboys. He's not.
After every Dallas Cowboys game at AT& T Stadium in Arlington , something curious happens. Reporters and camera operators — literally dozens of them — line up in a hallway outside the home locker room. They watch the team owner walk past them, usually silently, through the double doors. Then they wait for him to reemerge. When he does, it’s as if Jerry Jones gets swallowed alive.
The best Spurs coverage in Alamo City, delivered to your inbox In the middle of that mass of sweaty humanity there are questions, and Jones answers them all, cracking one-liners after wins and oozing defiance after losses. He answers so many questions that eventually most of the reporters and camera operators shuffle away while he’s still talking. No other NFL owner does this. No other NFL general manager does this. Why does Jones? It’s not just that he loves the attention.
For Cowboys, letdown against Lions should have been no stunner The truth is, there are none. Jones’ accountability – his willingness to stand in the middle of those reporters after every game – is an illusion, just like the supposed commitment he made to fielding a championship contender this year. In the months leading up to this season, much was made of Jones’ repeated use of the phrase “all-in.” It never meant anything. If it did, that would mean that Jones truly was gambling something.
