For reasons he still can’t quite articulate nearly five decades later, a 22-year-old Karl soon found himself loading up his Porsche sports car in Chapel Hill, N.C., and heading southwest. Though Karl was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame on Saturday due to his later work as an NBA coach, the seeds for that career were planted in South Texas soil.
Among those thrilled at Karl’s inclusion in the 2022 Hall class is the man who tops the NBA’s all-time victories list. He played in 231 games in his first three seasons with the Spurs, averaging seven points and 3.2 assists.
