Beef's Joseph Lee chats with VF about his dual passion for art and acting, his decades-long friendship with Steven Yeun, and whether he thinks George’s art is any good.
I moved to LA 12 years ago to pursue an acting career. My first year in LA, my father passed away. My parents separated when I was young, so I didn’t really have a relationship with the guy. I ended up going to the funeral, and I received a stack of black-and-white photos of him, oddly enough, around the same age in those photos as I was at that time. The whole funeral experience was a bit strange, because I didn’t know whether I should be more sad.
Your art is fantastic, but George’s art is a little bit more questionable. What do you think of George’s art? How much of a joke is it supposed to be? How bad is it?I really do. While we were filming it on one of my days off, I ended up going to an exhibition, and I literally saw an artist that was producing very similar work. I was looking at the price list, and it was really expensive work, and some of it was sold. I was like, “Wow, there is an interest in this.
