Ocean waves from the Monterey County coast to Sonoma County coast are expected to break at 10-14 feet.
“It’s a light rain,” National Weather Service meteorologist Rick Kaplan said. “That’s how it’s going to stay.”Indeed, the precipitation appeared to ease up, like a sprinkler fading after the hose is turned off, hitting with far less intensity than late last week. According to the weather service, the rain was falling at about the rate of one-tenth of an inch per hour in most places.
By Monday afternoon, about six-tenths of an inch of rain had dropped since early Sunday on Mount Umunhum in the Santa Cruz Mountains, the highest total in the region. Nearly four-tenths of an inch fell in downtown San Jose, and about a quarter inch fell in areas of Livermore and Brentwood, respectively.
The heaviest part of the system is expected to be fall the Central Coast, where the original atmospheric river — a narrow portion of the atmosphere that funnels moisture over long distances — is hanging around and where a second one aimed more for Southern California may have an influence, according to the weather service.
