Bert and Janet Page are on a mission to feed the homeless with their volunteers at Liberty Park and Library Square.
The area is dotted with small homeless camps, many of the occupants needing a good meal."She died of an overdose and she was homeless for a lot of years," Janet said.
Bert and Janet created the charity, My Hand to Yours, with a goal: feed their homeless friends without judgement or criticism."We shop Friday, and then we prep Saturday and Sunday and cut up all the vegetables for the salads that we make. Have a great group of volunteers who make tuna salad, chicken salad and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches," Bert said. "I would guess about 80% come with gratitude and thankfulness, and they tell us that, and a lot of them hug us.
It costs about $450 every weekend to prepare the lunches, and KUTV wanted to help keep the line moving. Lisa Hill with Mountain America Credit Union visited Bert and Janet and gifted them $500 on behalf of MACU and KUTV so they can continue to feed those in need. Also, if you know about someone making a difference in your community, tell us about them by emailing us at [email protected].
Mountain America Credit Union donated $500 to Bert and Janet so they can continue to pay it forward. You can find ways to donate on
