The last time Anchorage recorded any measurable precipitation was April 12ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Say goodbye to the sunny weather for now, as southerly flow has led to the return to cloud coverage acrossThe ridge of high pressure that has provided pleasant and warm conditions continues to weaken and shift east, opening the door for a trough to dig south through the state. As a result of this and increasing shower potential, cloud coverage will remain with us through much of the week.

Some spotty to isolated showers have already been reported across parts of Southcentral, with the Mat-Su Valley also seeing some areas of wintry mix this morning. Southcentral holds onto the chance for isolated to scattered activity throughout the day, with coastal regions also getting in on the mix. With the combination of rain showers and cloud coverage, today will also be slightly cooler. It’s very possible many areas only climb into the upper 40s.

Showers stick around across inland areas of Southcentral through Wednesday, with Thursday activity expected to ramp up near the gulf coast region. It’s looking very likely that widespread rain will impact coastal regions from late Wednesday night through the first part of the weekend. Inland areas will still see cloud coverage, with temperatures much of this week staying in the low- to mid-50s.continues to see a quiet stretch of weather, with temperatures remaining fairly mild.

As spring continues to build into the state, the focus is quickly shifting to break-up conditions. Flood watches are already in effect for Moose Creek in thenear Eagle, where water levels have risen 10 feet since Sunday. The threat for ice jams will continue to grow, as breakup picks up steam. There could be some issues in the coming weeks forDue to possible below-average temperatures, breakup in that region will be delayed.
