TORONTO—Gordon Lightfoot, the Canadian folk singer who counted Bob Dylan among his fans, died on Monday in a Toronto hospital, his booking agent Bernd Fiedler said. He was 84 years old. Mr. Lightfoot was among a wave of Canadian musicians including Neil Young and Joni Mitchell who found success in the U.S. in the 1960s and 1970s. He wasn’t as commercially successful as his contemporaries, but he left a lasting legacy of songs that were covered by singers such as Mr. Dylan, Johnny Cash, Herb Alpert, Jimmy Buffett, Liza Minnelli and Harry Belafonte.
