The number of patients in hospital with flu in England has increased by two thirds in just a week and rates are high among under-fives.
Cases of flu and Covid-19 are sky-rocketing just as families begin to come together for Christmas.
Almost 2,000 people were in hospital with flu each day last week, around 150 of whom were critically ill. The rate of Covid-19 hospital admissions stood at 9.6 per 100,000 people last week, slightly above the equivalent rate for flu admissions, at 8.3 per 100,000. All children aged two and three are eligible for a flu nasal spray vaccine which is being distributed by local GPs.
