Flossmoor police Chief Jerel Jones will “part ways” with the village after less than a year leading the force, Mayor Michelle Nelson announced Thursday.
Nelson declined to give any specifics about Jones’ performance, saying that was out of respect for Jones and the process. But she wrote “it has become clear that it is best for the Village if all parties part ways.” “I find it hard to believe his performance was so bad that he wouldn’t even be able to fix what was broken,” Alston said.
Alston argued, as did many residents Monday, that if Jones’ performance was so bad that it was irrevocable less than a year in, residents probably would have known. Either way, Alston said he hopes some specifics from the performance review will be made public.
