Brendan Depa , a Florida student recorded beating his teacher unconscious in 2023 after she confiscated his Nintendo Switch ,The attack happened when Matanzas High School teacher’s aide Joan Naydich confiscated Depa ’s gaming device for using it during school. Depa was lateron camera chasing the teacher down the hall, shoving her down and repeatedly striking her unconscious body.
Depa, who has autism, was charged with aggravated battery on an elected official or education employee for the attack. His jail time will be followed by 15 years of probation, during which he will be placed in an “appropriate group home.” His adoptive mother Leanna, however, warned Depa would be made into a target if placed in prison, according to the Dayton Beach News-Journal. She reportedly added “he’s had a hard life,” and described how he had at one time been using 17 different medications.Gene Lopes, a retired special education teacher who tutored Depa at the Flagler County Jail, said in January the student would not fare well in the prison system.
