A man accused of shooting and killing a cat with a high-powered BB gun has been arrested in Brevard County, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. , Sheriff Wayne Ivey said Lucas Steadman was arrested by the agency’s Fugitive Unit in connection with the May 11 incident. According to Ivey, Steadman is accused of shooting a cat in the eye with a high-powered BB gun, killing the animal.

Ivey said the cat lived at the same location and that the shooting may have stemmed from an issue involving the suspect’s cat and the victim animal not getting along. The sheriff’s office said Steadman was taken into custody and booked at what Ivey often refers to as “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge,” his nickname for the Brevard County Jail. Ivey said Steadman’s bond was set at $50,000.

“If you harm an animal in Brevard County, your butt’s going straight to jail,” Ivey said in the video. The sheriff’s office captioned the Facebook post, “Another animal abuser locked up at Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge where they belong!!

Ivey said that when Steadman was told why he was being arrested, he denied harming an animal. Ivey responded in the video by saying the allegation was not simply that the animal was hurt, but that it had been killed.
