A routine traffic stop in Florida resulted in the arrest of Donald Eugene Fields II, a man featured on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Sgt. Michelle Bilbrey of the Lady Lake Police Department apprehended Fields on Saturday after discovering that his vehicle's license plate was not registered to the car he was driving. Fields faces federal charges of child sex trafficking and state charges of child rape.

A routine traffic stop in Florida turned into a major victory for law enforcement over the weekend when a local police officer apprehended a man on the FBI ’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitive s list. Sgt. Michelle Bilbrey of the Lady Lake Police Department arrested Donald Eugene Fields II, 60, around 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27/441 and Rolling Acres Road. Fields was wanted by federal authorities on charges of child sex trafficking and state charges of child rape .

\Bilbrey made the remarkable arrest after running Fields’ vehicle’s license plate and discovering it was not registered to the car he was driving. This simple discrepancy led to a significant breakthrough in a case that had spanned across multiple states. The FBI had been actively seeking Fields since March 2022 when he failed to appear for a court hearing in Franklin County, Missouri, where he faced state charges including statutory rape, statutory sodomy, child molestation, and witness tampering. Furthermore, Fields was federally indicted in St. Louis on December 7, 2023, for attempting to recruit and exploit a minor for commercial sex acts between January 2013 and June 2017. \Both the Lady Lake Police Chief Steve Hunt and FBI Special Agent in Charge Ashley Johnson praised Bilbrey and the department for their vigilance and dedication to everyday policing. Chief Hunt emphasized the significance of routine traffic stops, stating, 'Sometimes, an everyday traffic stop turns into a real game-changer. This is a reminder that every officer, every day, is out there making a real difference,' He added, 'Every traffic stop is an opportunity for justice. What starts as a routine encounter can quickly turn into a pivotal moment, where an officer’s sharp instincts and dedication to service lead to a significant arrest—keeping our community and in this case, the nation, safer.' The FBI's Johnson also commended the local officer and her police department, stating, 'Thanks to proactive policing by the Lady Lake Police Department, one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted fugitives has been captured.' Fields is currently awaiting his first court appearance in federal court in Florida
