A routine traffic stop by a local Florida police officer resulted in the capture of a man who was on the FBI 's Ten Most Wanted Fugitive s list. Sergeant Michelle Bilbrey arrested Donald Eugene Fields II, 60, around 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27/441 and Rolling Acres Road in Lady Lake. The Lady Lake Police Department stated that Fields was facing federal charges of child sex trafficking and state charges of child rape .
Bilbrey's attention was drawn to Fields' vehicle when she ran the license plate and discovered that it was not registered to the car he was driving. This seemingly ordinary traffic stop quickly escalated into a significant capture, highlighting the importance of vigilant law enforcement. Chief Steve Hunt of the Lady Lake Police Department praised Bilbrey and her department for their commitment to everyday policing. He emphasized that even routine traffic stops can have a profound impact, leading to justice and keeping communities safe. FBI Special Agent in Charge Ashley Johnson also commended the local officer and her department, recognizing the crucial role they played in apprehending one of the FBI's most wanted fugitives. Fields had been a fugitive since March 2022 after failing to appear for a court hearing in Franklin County, Missouri, where he faces state charges, including statutory rape, statutory sodomy, child molestation, and witness tampering. He was also federally indicted in St. Louis on December 7, 2023, for attempting to recruit and exploit a minor for commercial sex acts between January 2013 and June 2017.
