A man called 'Alex' by the police climbed the transmission tower of a local Florida news station; he clung to the structure from late morning through the early evening hours while police tried to talk him down.
A man known only as"Alex" climbed a 400-foot TV transmission tower stationed outside of Orlando, Florida television station WKMG today at 11:00 a.m., 'Alex' was first spotted by WKMG traffic reporter Steve Montiero, who saw a man wearing baggy gym clothes climb over a barbed wire fence before making his climb up the station's transmission tower. Stopping at the tower's midway point, he eventually ascended all the way to its peak.
A broadcast transmission tower, much like the one climbed by an Orlando area man Wednesday afternoon.Staying perched in the tower for over eight hours,"Alex" remained still and silent while police attempted to negotiate with him. Members of the Orlando Police Department were on the scene to conduct negotiations, and they could be heard calling up to him in both Spanish and English to come down via a megaphone.
