TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a 17-day fishing extension for Gulf Red Snapper to Florida families and visitors during the holiday season.
According to a press release, the extension allows anglers to make up for lost fishing opportunities caused by recent hurricanes. The 2024 Recreational For-Hire Season by NOAA also reopened at the time of this announcement.
Before Hurricanes Milton and Helene hit, DeSantis announced a record 103-day Gulf Red Snapper recreational season. He said he'd reassess and add more days if needed. The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission expects a robust season next year even with the additional days, says the release.“We’re excited to offer anglers additional fishing days during December for Gulf recreational red snapper," said Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Executive Director Roger Young.
