The man refused to leave the woman's residence and then pulled a gun on deputies, the sheriff said.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office personnel outside a home in the Wright community near Fort Walton after a deputy shot and killed an intruder during an exchange of gunfire.A Panama City, Fla., man who refused to leave his ex-girlfriend’s home after previously threatening to kill her was shot dead by an Okaloosa County deputy after firing multiple shots at the deputy and his partner, officials said.

Deputies arrived at the scene and ordered the suspect -- identified as 58-year-old Jose Antonio Medina -- the leave the residence, but he refused, instead running into a bedroom and producing a gun. Neither deputy was injured in the incident, nor was the victim, who had called 911 after Medina refused to leave her home. She told deputies Medina had previously threatened to shoot and kill her.

“This incident reinforces the inherent dangers law enforcement officers make on a daily basis,” Aden added, “and also how critical their training is in handling situations which can unexpectedly turn violent and life-threatening in mere seconds.”
